He
squinted an eye at his friend. "I don't need anyone looking at me
in that way." There was a long pause, probably potcheen enhanced,
"I don't think?" Realizing he wasn't sure before shoulder was nudging
Aiden. "Some women like somber men. Ever notice the stoic quiet
ones become a challenge? Especially if one likes to talk, they get
targeted. I would make a bet with you there are women interested, you
just haven't met one you are interested in?"
She
didn't have a chance to even peek with Dalila rushing in and nearly
dragging her out. "They are all handsome here!" Protesting as
she was dragged out. She tried to smooth down dark hair but gave up,
tugging on Lila to slow her a bit. We can't go out there rushing like
two ninnies." Pausing, she giggled. "It is ninnies, si?"
Graham
gave a slight snort from behind the two fellows. "Gents, I'm sure
she was looking this way." He then pulled a long drag from a
cigarillo before it was discarded on the ground and under his boot. Ham
then rolled up the cuffs and then reached out to greet both of the
gentlemen. "Evenin'."
"What
are you doing in the fountain, Ham?" Hearing the snort from behind
them as they were sitting on the edge of the very large basin of water.
Turning his head as he squinted an eye expecting to see him splashing
through the water but his voice had just carried it seemed as he was
along the other side then next to them. "You have any more of those
smoked cured sausages?"
"That
ends that argument then." He chuckled as he looked over his
shoulder. "Evening, Ham." For some reason the question struck
him as funny and he chuckled. The bottle was offered back to Gabriel.
"Si,
but no ninny." Pausing just before the door as now there were
three, "tres! We have extra, si!" That's when she stepped out
with a practiced swish to her hips of the colorful skirt, hand in the
folds helping the material along. She waited for Dia just outside the
door, recognizing one of the three. "I know one," coming in a
whisper.
"'Course.
How many do you need?" Ham chuckled behind his hand as he too found
the statement amusing. "I can have two dozen up at the hall by
tomorrow."
Anne,
hearing the fuss and the flurry outside of her doors, left the snoring
Odile in their sitting room as she vacated the premises, stopping by the
door long enough to slide her feet into leather soled slippers. She was
still wearing the diaphanous working-practice dress that she held
classes in, her auburn hair confined in a sensible knot on the top of
her head to head towards the sound of voices, familiar and not.
He
laughed next, "evening Ham, I think my stomach was taking priority
there for a moment. A few dozen links for I'll never make it through the
knight's and have any left otherwise. I will pick them up or I'll never
see them at all.." laughing then before he nudged Aiden again.
"Look, more ladies looking your way.."
She
glanced back to make sure none of their brothers were around, nearly
running into her sister. Dark eyes went wide as she peeked over Lila's
shoulder. "So do I. Which do you know? And why didn't you know you
knew him when we were upstairs?" Hmm. Yes, that was right. She
giggled though. It sounded funny!
"Add
another dozen or two to that and I'll join him." He was nearly
unbalanced by the nudge and grabbed hold of the fountain edge to keep
from falling backwards. "Where?" Seeing Anne emerge, he stood
then caught the two coming out of the theater. "They're just coming
out of buildings." Gabriel was going to drive him to drink!
Oh wait. They were drinking.
"The
one the other keeps nudging. His name is Aiden. I meet him once."
She caught sight of Anne coming out of the studio and was right over.
"Buenas tardes, I am Dalila Valdez, we are vecinas,
neighbors."
"Good
evening, ladies. I've met your brother Raul recently. I'm Anne Harper.
And I am guessing one of you is Brigidia, the other is... Dalila?"
At least, she thought those were the names. There was a third sister
too, she remembered and took the risk that she was still in the theatre
itself. Glancing towards the fountain, she chuckled softly. "Now
there's a trio of handsome men. One rogue, one rapscallion and one
gentleman."
His
brows arched up as he looked surprised at all of the women trickling out
of the buildings around them. "I suppose it is our lucky evening,
gentlemen." He spoke low so that his voice didn't carry that far.
He had a nasty habit of putting his foot in his mouth.
"Aye,
coming out of the woodwork just for you Aiden," really teasing him
good as he rose slowly from his seated position. He recognized two of
the ladies. He would wait instead of calling across the court.
"It
is pleasure to meet you Anne, si, Raul," slight frown there before
dashed away. "You put smile on his face that day, gracias. Si,
which is rogue, which is rapsca, rap scallions, and one gentleman? We
change?" Smile flashing in a wicked mischief way.
"You're
welcome, but there's no need to thank me. I didn't do anything."
Shrugging it off, because she truly believed it wasn't merited, she
waved over at the two knights and Graham, lowering her voice as well.
"The rogue is Master Frasier, well nicknamed Ham, the rapscallion
is Sir Gabriel, because his horse is named Rapscallion... and Sir Aiden
is the gentleman."
"It
is a pleasure to meet you Anne. Raul mentioned meeting you, si."
And yes, he was in a good mood that day. She laughed as Dalila asked her
question, peeking at the three men and waving. "Does Senor Ham
act?"
"He
is Ham, he has to act! Si!" Next she was sauntering over their way,
bright colors of orange, reds and white with a peasant top that slid off
one shoulder to expose bronze skin. "Buenas tardes," sliding a
glance over Ham then Gabriel before focus turned on Aiden. "It is
pleasure to meet you again Handsome Aiden."
Gabriel
nudged Aiden so good that time he near fell in the fountain behind them.
A quick two step to check his balance and clearing of his throat or he
would be laughing. He made his point Aiden's way.
"Shutup."
He mumbled Gabriel's way before smiling toward Dalila and bowing
slightly. "It's a pleasure to see you again, lovely Dalila. This is
Gabriel, one of my fellow knights and a friend, and this is Graham
Frasier, another friend. But not a knight. You both are welcome to join
us, ladies." He offered, just in case, though he didn't expect
either Anne or Dia to be shy about it.
Ham
waggled his fingers back to those who waved before standing up to greet
Dalila as she approached. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss."
Flashing her a smile before looking over to the other ladies as well.
"Please do."
"It
is a pleasure to meet you Dalila," trying very hard not to laugh
for the 'shutup' remark and offend the lady without trying to. Could be
taken wrong. He nudged Ham next as he'd gotten too quiet and then not.
"Good
evening, gentlemen," deciding to include all three in her greeting,
Anne nodded to each in turn.
"Come,
we meet the Rogue and Rap ... scallion." She sashayed after Lila,
hips moving in a natural sway. Her skirt was a rose color, the blouse a
dusty shade of the same. "It is good to see you again, Senor Aiden."
Dark eyes turned to the other two. "I am Brigidia."
She
gave a wink to each as they were introduced. "It is pleasure to
meet you Gabriel and Ham not a knight. Do you perform, ham on stage, si?
It is saying of ham, one likes to perform?"
"Not on
stage, but I would probably be accused of hamming it up in front of
people." He gave a slight chuckle at his own puns in that sentence.
"I am the butcher." He pointed down one of the side streets.
As he was introduced, he grinned again. He loved to meet new people.
Anne
fought valiantly to resist the urge to make a pun of her own on his
profession and instead landed herself next to Aiden on the fountain,
trailing her fingers along the cool water. For now, she was happy to
watch the five interact.
"Evening
Anne, nice night in the square this one." Smile touched with a dip
of his head her way. "You have met Ham?"
"Evening,
Anne. It's good to see you again." Aiden smiled then looked at Ham.
"Maybe you should try acting sometime." He might be good at
it. "Even nicer now that we have company."
"Oh,
si, you are meat man and ham." Almost tripping over her words as
she slipped out of her slippers and hopped up on the ledge surrounding
the fountain. She started dancing, skirt flying as she
pivoted, feet working in intricate steps that made the most of how her
skirt accented the movements while making her way behind the three
males, wink given Anne and Dia before arms first encircle down around
Aiden loosely, "you come dance with me." More a statement,
half a plea and only a touch in question.
"Good
evening, Gabriel, and yes, I've met Master Frasier." She wiggled
her fingers at Ham, then smiled back at Aiden. "Likewise. You've
been well, Sir Aiden?" She wasn't too sure about mentioning the
possibility that she was going to tread the boards herself. Dalila's
invitation would make it unnecessary.
She
laughed as she watched Lila, dark eyes sparkling. "You make a good
splash should you fall!" And she laughed again when she invited
Aiden to dance.
He
didn't nudge Aiden this time but he was grinning. "Aiden can dance,
si." Using her language in near a dare his comrade's way to refuse
the lady.
Words
had come near his ear and just for it being there she playfully nipped
it with her lips. "Si, you dance!"
He'd
get Gabriel back.... maybe get Lancely to make a gauntlet just for him.
One with lots of feathers, and maybe tar. "I can dance, but I'm not
sure ... " He paused to look at her, surprised. "Uh ... not
sure I can balance on the fountain." Good thing he didn't blush!
"We'll
get out of your way to make it easier." Blue eyes danced impishly
at the knight as she gave Gabriel's sleeve a tug to get him to move.
"All
of my life." Before smiling and waving to Anne. "And it is a
pleasure to see you again as well." Before he stepped away from the
fountain to make way for Aiden should he take the lady up on her offer.
That
was as good a yes as any, straightening some but not before a hand
slipped down to capture his hand, urging him around so that he could
come up on the ledge. "I keep you from falling!" Like she
could but certainly she sounded very convincing.
"Yes,"
stepping back as he ended up near Anne and Ham, "plenty of room for
you to dance, Aiden." Trying to keep a straight face but really was
not managing it at all presently.
"We
should make the music?" Laughing as she waved the others forward
and out of the way.
"This
isn't funny." Then why was he laughing? He likely should have
taken off his sandals but he was up onto the ledge, trying to not look
sheepish.
"Give
me a minute and I'll go get my flute if you want music." She
gestured to the dance school within line of sight.
She
looked at Gabriel, trying to be stern. "You sure he can dance? He
no look too certain. Oh! Si, Anne. Please!"
"Of
course." She nodded to Dia and took off at a quick walk, certain
Aiden would get her back for this too.
"We
do Spanish seduce dance, si!" Eyes were lit up as well her smile.
Facing him she started those intricate steps so very close to him.
Shoulders rolled before skirts flared with those short turns and she
easily whipped around him. From behind she slid her back up against his
as arms snaked up, curving back so that her palms caressed his cheeks in
a flowing way, snaking against the contours.
"Spanish
seduce dance?" Brows lifted as words were mussed, dark eyes
shifting from the two to Dia and Anne for a confirmation there was such
a dance?
Since
all of their instruments were kept ready, it didn't take Anne but a few
minutes to return with a silver flute in time to see the arched brow
from Gabriel, prompting a chuckle. She'd let Dia answer that question.
"Spanish
what?" He nearly slipped off the ledge right there though eyes
dropped to watch her. "You're not going to wait for the mu...
" He stopped again as she moved around him, looking heavenward
briefly. "Apparently there is, Gabriel." He was trying hard
not to laugh at himself.
Hands
slid down as she moved around, sliding them around his hips, one to each
side as she gave pressure in unison, "you move hips like
this." Next he would find her fully around facing him again as her
hands left his hips to draw his to hers, letting him feel how her hips
moved side to side in a fluid motion, her legs moving to have that
effect and not rigid.
"Before
things heat up too much I probably should take my leave." He bowed
at the waist. "I hope to see you all soon. And I shall meet you
with the few dozen of cured sausages after we break fast." He then
pulled a cigarillo out of his pocket and went on his way through the
commons.
