Daurenia had
been a thriving land. The weather tropical, the economy
thriving, and in a time of peace. It was surrounded on
three sides by mountains, the fourth separated from the mainland
by a river that had gouged out cliffs and a large bridge to
connect the two. They imported rare woods, ores, marble and
Daurenia pears, considering a delicacy. The royal family
consisted of a King, Queen and their two children, a girl and
boy. Aiden,
along with Dylann and Leith, were sent on a diplomatic mission
-- an arranged marriage for the Crown Prince. Gabriel and
Cole were sent on other missions unknown to the three,
concerning a trade treaties to different kingdoms. Aiden,
Leith, Gabriel and Cole were members of the Knight
Defenders. Dylann was also a member of the Brotherhood,
the Berserkers. He was also their First Knight. When
the three knights returned, they found Daurenia had been totally
destroyed, nothing left standing, the land barren. Aiden
left a message carved in stone in case there were any
survivors that the three were heading north and they left the
realm. Gabriel and Cole found the message separately and
started out to track the others down.
A
year ago, Aiden, Lancely and Dylann set out to see if they could
learn what truly happened to the land and its people. When
they arrived, they were stunned to see there were ruins and even
the bridge, though damaged was still standing. Whatever
illusion had kept them from seeing it all the first time was
changed. They also found a statue that had not been there
before. When they entered the caves, they found a mage had
been behind this, and he was controlled by a even more powerful
mage who had been banished millennium ago. The
people were inside the cave as engravings on the walls. After
they defeated the mage, and cut off the power of the other, the
people were freed. The King, Queen and several member of
the court were missing, including Aiden's fiancee, and were
presumed to have been killed. Everything was as it had
been, the illusion of destruction fully gone. Aiden knew
there was nothing left for him there and returned to
Heathfield. Dylann, and eventually Leith, stayed in
Daurenia.
Gabriel was
being trained in diplomatic relations as well one of the
elite warriors order of the Knight Defenders. It meant he
had exceptional fighting skills like his brethren. He had been
sent to a few faraway kingdoms on a successful diplomatic
mission. Still rough around the edges as he was not the usual
politician, he was direct and honest. The particular kingdoms he
was sent to appreciated this. However, the returned to lands no
more. Barren. Wastelands. How could a whole kingdom disappear as
if it never existed? At first he thought he'd gone mad but then
he found the message etched in stone, with everything else gone,
it stood out a sore thumb. He continued on, going north to find
at least Aiden, Dylann and Leith. Unfortunately there were a few
unexpected adventures on the way that prolonged his time in
finding his kinsmen. These were stories onto themselves.
Eventually he was able to track down the three to a kingdom
called Heathfield after a number of years, something like going
on four.
